Do you remember the little red wall boxes that had a centered glass pane and a small hammer attached to the side? The message on the boxes read “in case of emergency (or fire), break glass.” Only with the glass broken could you access the button underneath that called forth the cacophonous clanging of bells or maybe even a deluge of water. Firetrucks might suddenly appear. These boxes used to be ubiquitous in public buildings. The action of breaking the glass always seemed to be a kind of silent admonition that you better be sure you were warning of a real emergency!
If you read my work you know that it is not my habit to comment on political or current events, but at this point the urgency of the work we are doing, of waking up, of moving to the next level of consciousness, has now reached a critical stage. It is time to “break glass.” Fortunately, we do not need to review all the political chaos that is occurring right now in order to demonstrate this thesis. This chaos is just a very demonstrative part of humanity’s overall lack of consciousness.
We are at a critical point in human evolution. For centuries humanity has lived an unconscious existence. As the philosopher and mystic Georges Gurdjieff said back in the 20th century, “the ordinary person operates like a blind machine with no awareness or consciousness.” Sadly, since his time, little has changed. The neuroscientist, Dr. Joe Dispenza, explains that “5% of our mind is conscious struggling against the 95% that is running subconscious automatic programs.” These automatic programs are what make us into Gurdjieff’s “blind machine.”
Einstein famously said, “no problem was ever solved at the level of consciousness at which it was created.” And yet, this is what we have been attempting since humans decided to walk upright. This reactive, unconscious way of being is now very close to causing our extinction.
One of the greatest manifestations of unconsciousness is legalized murder or war. The fact that war is still seen as an important and approved way to resolve conflict demonstrates how unconscious humanity really is. The horror and stupidity of a world that spends trillions of dollars on systems designed solely for the purpose of killing human beings fully demonstrates a mass ignorance. I bring this up because at this moment, while people are worried about a viral pandemic and economic collapse, a much more dangerous threat is rapidly evolving, a threat that a conscious human being would never consider or support, nuclear war.
In the past, closer to the first and last use of a nuclear weapon, when the devastation of just one bomb severely shocked the world, governments were cautious around the idea of a nuclear war. They established safeguards in the form of treaties, both to protect against a nuclear holocaust and to act as warning systems to help in deterrence. These treaties allowed time for dialog in the event that one of them was threatened or nearly breached. As of this week, the final treaty called “open skies” was abrogated by the United States. It was the last treaty. Sadly all the treaties that have ever been created have been broken or dismissed by the United States. There is now no treaty to prevent or slow down the occurrence of nuclear war and the triggers are always set to “on.” Mutually assured destruction with the apt acronym MAD is now a real threat. That mankind could be so unconscious as to destroy itself is clearly a big possibility.
In a conscious world, we should be working furiously to eliminate nuclear weapons (and all weapons really), but the United States is spending billions right now on creating even more of these humanity killers. Other “nuclear nations” are frightened and concerned, which is natural when faced with a foe that breaks treaties and seems to have no interest in restraint. They ask themselves if they should be prepared to launch first. But, no matter who goes first, everyone on the planet will die. There is talk of “limited” and controllable nuclear war. Absolute nonsense which confirms the idea that if you build millions of weapons you will eventually have to use them to justify their existence and, of course, to engender more sales. It’s really all about money.
It is time to break the glass. It should be obvious that humanity cannot solve its problems at a level of consciousness which includes the possibility of total self-annihilation. Not only can we not solve our personal or universal problems at our current level, which is steeped in ages of ignorance, but we stand a real chance of killing everyone and every living thing. The doomsday clock is approaching its last minute. Time to break the glass and wake up!
