The Three Worlds

It seems true that, for many of us, in order to learn and integrate a new body of knowledge it easier to compartmentalize the parts of the whole. It is hard for some of us to see the big picture without seeing the little pieces first! So, the larger compartments here I have labeled “the three worlds.” Each world represents a certain level of consciousness, beginning with the world we are living in, which we will call the sleeping world, moving from there into the waking world, and then on into the awakened world, our destination.

The Tibetan Buddhists say living in the past is like trying to write on water; living in the future is like casting your nets in dry riverbeds. Which is to say, what is happening now is all there is. The past has dissolved and doesn’t actually exist except as memory and neither does the future (no need to worry about it). This is an excellent prescription for living in the present. However, because we will need some understanding of where we are and how we got here in order to begin our disassociation from our current level of consciousness, we will have to delve a bit into our past. And, because we will need vision to inspire us as we move toward the awakened world, we will need to create a flexible, evolving vision of the awakened world, if we desire to create an amazing future.

Our spiritual evolution consists of unraveling the beliefs of our current world (the sleeping world) and installing a completely new system, much like removing a computer program and replacing it with a completely different and more elegant and efficient system. To continue the analogy, we will be making a serious upgrade from the sleeping world to the awakened world and we will always write our new program in the waking world.

Thus, our primary concern is the work of the waking world. Most of humanity lives in the sleeping world, perhaps as much as  99%. This is the world of the unconscious. But, quite simply, if mankind is to survive, it will need to move to a higher level of consciousness. In the unconscious or sleeping world, we just keep repeating the same errors over and over. This is not hyperbole or conjecture. Any group of sentient beings that believes that war is an effective means of communication and spends trillions of dollars on weapons to kill other humans and creating nuclear weapons to kill even more of us is not going to last very long. In order for new weapons to be sold, old ones have to be used. This is a devil’s bargain that has been made on our behalf by the warmongers, arms dealers, and war profiteers.  The so-called doomsday clock is ticking down and is thought to be in its last minute. Every person who cares about positive evolution and the creation of world infused with peace, real liberty, and with love and compassion has a responsibility in helping us to escape the stupidity and ignorance in which we seem suspended in time and with which we are surrounded. It is the ocean we swim in.  The collapse of our society and world that is happening now is calling for a major change.   You are the fundamental component of this change. The micro informs the macro. When you change, the world will. Explore consciousness!
